The FDIC tells mobile banking users to take the following steps to keep themselves safe:

1. Protect phone access with a PIN

2. Install anti malware software on the phone

3. Monitor transactions regularly to detect fraud

4. Use your cellular service to connect to your bank account and not an unsecured public Wi-Fi network

5. Call your bank to get answers to questions you may have before you sign up to use mobile banking services.
